US Tax - Header Level and Line Level

There are 2 different ways to add US taxes: Header Level or Line Level. 


  • Header Level tax will apply to the invoice subtotal (all lines)


  • Line Level tax will apply when an invoice has taxes only on specific lines.




Header Level Tax




  1. When entering an invoice, SELECT Header Level Tax in the Tax section. CLICK the Category drop down to select tax rate. This will apply this tax rate to the entire invoice total once items are added. 


    NOTE: Do not change the taxable amount total on the right. This will auto fill once all items are added.



  2. Proceed creating your entry. 

  3. Once all of the items are entered CLICK UPDATE at the top of the screen. You will see the tax total populate.






Line Level Tax



  1. When entering an invoice, SELECT Line Level Tax. This will allow taxes to be added to specific line items.



  2. Proceed creating your entry. 

  3. Once all of the items are added, CLICK the Tax Category check box and the check box for the items (below to the left) and CLICK Add To Included Lines. 


    NOTE: Do not worry about choosing the tax percentage at this step, you will do this in the next step.





  4. A tax category will appear for each line item. Change the tax percentage for each item. 


    NOTE: If an item has no tax, this item must have 0% tax selected.





  5. Once the tax category is selected for each item, CLICK Update at the top of the screenYou will see the tax total at the top of the screen based on the tax entered per line.
